Heifer Barn Upgrades for Cow Comfort, Airflow, and Easier Animal Movement

At Grotegut Dairy Farm Inc in Newton, Wisconsin, we completed a series of upgrades focused on improving the day-to-day function of the heifer barn. Through this remodel work, we helped update key parts of the facility with products and equipment designed to support cow comfort, improve airflow, and make animal movement easier for employees working in the barn.

Our work included installing new freestalls with KRAIBURG stall mat rolls in the heifer barn, retrofitting the sort lane with new gates and a palpation rail, completing concrete work, and upgrading ventilation with Agro Air Dynamics fans and a sprinkler system. Together, these improvements helped Grotegut Dairy Farm Inc strengthen comfort, handling, and ventilation throughout the barn while supporting smoother daily operation.

Freestalls
- We installed new ironside freestall loops in the heifer barn to help improve stall layout, animal comfort, and the overall use of the space.
KRAIBURG Stall Mat Rolls
- KIM stall mat rolls and KKM stall mat rolls were added in the heifer barn to provide a more comfortable lying surface for heifers and support a cleaner, more functional stall area.
Custom Fabrication
- We retrofitted the sort lane with new gates and a palpation rail to help improve animal flow and make handling cattle easier and more efficient.
Concrete Work
- We added concrete for the sort lane retrofit and barn improvements, supporting the facility’s updated layout and daily operations.
Barn Ventilation Updates
- Cyclone recircultating fans were installed to improve barn ventilation and create better airflow for cattle.
- Exhaust fans were installed to help maintain a comfortable environment by efficiently removing stale air while introducing fresh airflow into the barn.
- Phason Supra Touch VFD controller was installed to optimize ventilation control.
- We installed a sprinkler system as part of the ventilation upgrade to support barn cooling in warmer weather.
